After her rare birth defect was diagnosed in the womb, Sofia Rose was born at the Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Alicia was 21 weeks pregnant with her daughter when she learned she had spina bifida, a type of birth defect in which the spinal column doesn't close correctly.
The family came to the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for care. Sofia Rose had fetal surgery to close the opening in her spinal column.
She was delivered at CHOP. Now 1 year old, she is hitting all her developmental milestones.
The family celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Garbose Family Special Delivery Unit at a ceremony in the spring of 2018.
